Satellite Experience
Brief: We know that satellites exist above us but knowledge of how they work and where exactly they are at any time is more elusive. This project involves revealing some of these hidden aspects of satellite technology and thinking about how we can configure the considerable technical power of satellite technologies for social good.
Inspiration
In order to understand the applications of satellites in different fields and the connection between people and satellites, we read a lot of literature and books on these aspects. And we also think about how to provide people with emotional experiences via satellites.
Satellite technology has a subtle influence on people's daily life, providing them with GPS positioning, satellite television and broadcasting services, weather forecasting and disaster warning. In addition, satellite remote sensing technology is also very helpful for monitoring human living environment and natural environment.
After reading the articles on technologies used by satellites, we also conducted a brainstorm on the relationship between human emotions and the services provided by satellite technology. We've found that satellite communications actually help people build their social networks, and help them communicate with friends from a long distance.
Ayat Ayman (2016) claim that satellite communication technologies and the virtual public space (internet), GPS based technologies, and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, keep users informed of the events and news by either transmitted them on public screens or made them available to users throughout wireless networks at any time and any place and also foster the online interaction.
As the use of digital networks becomes an essential part of everyday life, a new digital layer is added on the existing urban landscape, which makes the experience of the urban environment consisted of multiple layers, through direct contact and through the mediation of digital technologies.
Storytelling
We asked three people to tell us an unforgettable story that let them think a lot, and we also focused on the specific behavioural details they have at that moment and asked them how they actually felt about that. We tried to find more connection between emotion and satellite communication technology.
